Abrishum comes from the Persian/Dari word of ابریشم meaning silk. Abrishum refers to the ancient trade route that connected the markets of eastern Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and Central Asia to the markets in Constantinople and Europe through Afghanistan. The historic and valuable route is still used for ground transportation as a trading route between China, Central Asia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, and beyond. Abrishum was founded with one goal: to introduce the world to the artistic, luxury, handmade crafts and products of the central hub of the Silk Road, Afghanistan. For decades, Afghans have perfected, yet still kept, the traditional methods of carpet making. It is a delicate process that takes a few weeks to a decade to produce a single carpet.
